Potential consequences of COVID-19
in people with chonic noncommunicable diseases

The Technical Note was recently presented: What consequences does the COVID-19 pandemic have on chronic noncommunicable diseases and how to reduce them?
The document, aimed at professionals and technicians related to health and nutrition in member countries, presents a review on the relationship between COVID-19 disease and chronic non-communicable diseases (NCD), such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases ( CVD), cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), among others.
Specifically, the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic in the region are described, where there is a high prevalence of NCD; thus also the prognosis and severity of COVID-19 in patients with NCD; and a series of nutritional and preventive measures to reduce the severity of COVID-19.
Professionals from the INCAP Research Center for the Prevention of Chronic Diseases (CIIPEC) team, made up of Diego Hernández Galdámez, Álvaro Rivera Andrade, Analí Morales Juárez, Manuel Ramírez Zea and Carlos Mendoza Montano are the authors of the aforementioned technical note.
