Professional experience and areas of expertise

Born and raised in Guatemala. Trained in public health and management in the United States and Israel. Over the past 8 years I have implemented multiple research projects in rural and urban areas of Guatemala. These projects have focused largely on assessing the prevalence and distribution of modifiable and environmental risk factors of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cervical cancer and liver disease. Moreover, I have conducted projects that have focused on examining the effectiveness and acceptability of interventions and strategies at the community level to reduce the burden of NCDs. While working on these projects I managed to establish long-term professional collaborations with colleagues locally and internationally. Besides my work as a researcher at INCAP, I co-run a health technology start up that aims to improve access to medical care in Guatemala and abroad. Finally, I also set aside time to mentor medical students and master´s students from the Central American region and the United States  to advance their research.
