Professional experience and areas of expertise

Researcher at the INCAP Research Center for the prevention of Chronic Diseases at the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (CIIPEC-INCAP).  Dr Kroker-Lobos has a strong background on nutritional epidemiology, food policy interventions, public health nutrition and food environment including studies on obesity, nutrition, lifestyle modification, and cardiometabolic risk factors in children and adults.

 

She has successfully coordinated and lead core studies in Central America and Latin America related with food environment, food policies and school-based interventions to promote healthier diets.  She was awarded with a Fogarty Global Health Post-Doctoral Fellowship to study the role of the food environment, diet and nutritional status of school-age children in rural communities in Guatemala.  She is also the Principal investigator of several studies on food environment monitoring and country lead of the International Network for Food and Obesity/Non-communicable Diseases Research, Monitoring and Action Support (INFORMAS) in Central America. Currently she is the regional Co-PI of the study “Urban Health in Latin America” (SALURBAL) for Central America and other regional and local epidemiological studies.  Recently she was invited to be part of the Governance, Ethics and Conflict of Interest in Public Health Network.
