Professional experience and areas of expertise

BSc. Yaimie Lopez has worked for almost 5 years in collaboration with Universidad del Valle de Guatemala on research projects related to vector borne diseases, such as host-seeking behavior and larvae ecology of the malaria vector Anopheles albimanus;   surveillance and test insecticide resistance of Aedes spp. mosquitoes in Central America and Dominican Republic. She has also carried out qualitative research projects related the supply chain of repellents donated to fight the Zika epidemic at El Salvador and Honduras.

Currently, at CIIPEC, she´s collaborating on the qualitative research project “Developing a model for progressing and monitoring governance, leadership and accountability for urban health: A case study from Guatemala”, in partnership with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, which aims to strengthen the governance and accountability of urban health systems in two municipalities in Guatemala, using the qualitative approach Participatory Action Research (PAR).

BSc. Yaimie López has been accepted at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine to attend the Biology of Tropical Disease Master Programme (2020-2021). She´s been awarded the International Master’s Fellowship Grant of Wellcome Trust to conduct research on the ecological factors influencing cutaneous leishmaniasis transmission in Guatemala (2021-2023).
